Grant Program for Safe Streets and Roads Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) established the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) competitive grant program through $5 billion in allocated funds over five years, from 2022 through 2026. The SS4A program funds Tribal, local, and regional activities to prevent horrific injuries and deaths on the roadways through grants. Approximately $2 billion of other investment rounds are still available.

Grant Program for Safe Streets and Roads SS4A is assisted by our goal of zero traffic fatalities under the Safe System Approach and the National Traffic Safety Strategy of the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT).

More than 1,600 towns across all 50 States and Puerto Rico have been paid $2.9 billion in Federal funds by SS4A due to the total FY22, FY23, and FY24 awards to date. Through this major funding mechanism, USDOT is backing regional, local, and tribal projects to save lives.

Eligibility criteria for applicants

📍 Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs)
– Represent urbanized areas and oversee regional transportation planning.

📍 Political Subdivisions of a State (as defined in FY 2025 NOFO)
